The "Backyard Estimate" app is a simple and user-friendly tool designed to help you forecast your loop times for a Backyard Ultra race, or Hill Mile race, or any race where you start a loop at regular intervals. In Front Yard mode, the intervals may even be dynamic. By trusting the estimate, you can avoid unnecessary stress and save energy during your race. You (yellow), your buddy (green), and your competitor (red dot) run around the edge of your watch. You must beat your competitor, and you know your buddy will. : Installation: The "Backyard Estimate" app is a “Data Field” that first needs to be installed, then it must be included in one or more of your activity types. If you need assistance with the installation, watch the video tutorial. : Factors Considered: The app provides four different estimates. The main estimate is based on three main factors: remaining distance, current pace, and the previous loop you completed. The flat estimate ignores the previous loop. Adjust your pace, keep it for 10 seconds, and watch the estimates. The custom field provides two estimates based on your average pace. : Lap Button: You don't need to press the lap button to utilize the app, but if you want a record of your loop times, it's recommended to lap at start and end of each loop. In that case, use www.fitfileviewer.com to view the right-most fields in the Lap-section in the .zip file you get at garminconnect.com (Export "Original"). There is an option to use your Lap button to end the loops. The loops will always start at the regular intervals. "Forgetting" the Lap button will never disturb your estimates. : Standard Output Examples: “Estimate 49:12” means you will spend 49:12 on the loop if you keep the same pace profile as you did on the remaining part of the previous loop and the same power effort as you have now. "RUN! (55m) 8:10 min/km" means you need to maintain a pace of 8:10 /km to finish the loop in 55 minutes. "QUIT? (60m) 4:56 min/km", means 4:56 /km is needed to avoid quitting. (The two latter are available if stopping and/or as custom fields.) : Graphical Information: The time axis and the distance axis are both indicated “around the clock”, starting on top. Dots indicate times, arcs indicate distances. You can compare your current distance with the time (the red dot) and with the previous loop (the green arc, your "buddy"). The green dot represents the estimate provided by the app. You can show the app in two pages. If the secondary field is the top half of the screen, you will see a graph of the recent loops there. A 3-field screen is recommended. : Offset starting: When do the loops start? If they don't start on the full hour, you have two options: a. Activate a setting to set the offset time at the start time. b. You may always press the lap button 3 times with approx. 1.5 secs between each press (Rapid laps). The first of the three will be used as reference start time for all following loops. Both these methods are useful for training purposes. Some rapid laps: (Full list on watch before you start the workout) 3: Set offset. 4: Revert offset to full hour. 6: Set 6.7 km, 60 min. 10: Revert to last known settings from phone. : Hints for Optimal Usage: Avoid stopping your watch during the race, as it may cause the loop to be considered ended and result in incorrect loop counter values. Keep the powerbank and charging cable ready before the race starts. Do not charge from a computer. You don't need any interaction with the app during the race, but still: Learn how to use it before using it on a race, and understand the Flat estimate.

No blue line during breaks Information about loop times in laps under http://garminconnect.com and in phone app. Longer duration of feedback popup Give feedback on rapid Lap press, and a list of possible actions before you start the watch. Longer custom text. Language improvements. IMPORTANT change in behavior: The "double lap press" is changed to "triple", and the 10 sec limit is removed. You must press the lap button 3 times to set an offset time. Approx. 1.5 seconds between each press. 4 laps revert back to whole periods. 3.5 Improvement of .fit file: Under "Record", you will find the estimate and the flat estimate as seconds estimated. You can also see these as graphs on your activity at "https://garminconnect.com". Added info about previous loop in the lap information in the .fit file. That is helpful if the wrong loop is logged. One loop will normally be logged on several laps, since you normally would press the lap button twice per loop. If you forget one press on the lap button, you will still see the record of loops by looking at the previous loop. Added sound and vibration (if selected in settings) on new settings while the app is active. Writing loop data to the .fit file. To record the data (loop time and corresponding loop distance), you must press the lap button at start and end of each loop. (Not replacing the current "Last" indication.) Added a graph of the recent loop times if the app is put in a data field covering the upper half of the screen. Most watches has this option for 2 or 3 field screens. You should not replace the single data screen, but add the 3-field screen, and add the Backyard Estimate App to that one. You will not duplicate the app by doing this. If showing the list of recent loops in break mode (Setting in the Connect IQ app on your phone), the same list will appear as an overlay over the graph. The image below shows the graph only. Battery optimizations. The watch now responds immediately when settings are changed. This may have side effects. Changing the Loop Distance and the Loop time limit should be done before you start the app. Added an ability to use the Lap button (once) to finish the loop. Added support for: Approach S70 Epix Pro Fenix 7 Pro Venu 3 Skipping the 3-minute and 2 minute warnings if small loop times. (25, 13 min or less.)
