설명

The digits aren't a font: they're seven polygons per digit, switched on and off. And the ones switched off are visible, in faint grey, the way they are on any real reflective LCD. That detail — the ghost segments — is what makes a watch face read like an eighties digital instead of an app imitating one. AT A GLANCE • Large seven-segment time, following your watch's 12 or 24-hour setting • Weekday and date, or your step count, in the top right corner • Configurable small row: seconds, heart rate, steps, or seconds and heart rate • The original's four hourly-chime bars, reused as a battery gauge • Bell lit when you have an alarm set, or unread notifications • Optional phone link indicator, using the original's radio reception mark • PM lit only in the afternoon, and only if your watch is in 12-hour mode FOUR LCD STYLES • VD-80 Positive — greenish grey, black bezel, blue pinstripe, red "WR" • Negative — the LCD inverted: black background, green segments • Backlit — the amber of the bulb, rising from the bottom left corner • VD-50 Data — grey case and the red "WATER RESIST 50M" band FOUR ALWAYS-ON MODES (AMOLED watches only) None of them is the whole face dimmed down. Garmin imposes two rules at once — at most 10% of pixels lit, and on several watches no pixel lit for more than three minutes straight — and both have to be met: a design can draw almost nothing and still burn the screen, if that almost-nothing is always the same pixels. All four carry the two techniques it takes to meet both rules at once: one row in three is drawn, shifting every minute, and the time block moves through five positions, one per minute. What changes between them is the stroke. • Outline — the perimeter of each segment only. Looks etched into the glass. This is the default • Fine outline — the same etching, with a thinner stroke • Filled — solid segments, the boldest read • Minimal — thin fill, the time and nothing else. The cheapest one NOTES AND LIMITS • On MIP watches (fēnix 7, Forerunner 955 and similar) there is no always-on to configure: the screen is always visible and the full face stays on. The setting exists but does nothing, and that's correct — there is no burn-in to avoid there. • No connectivity, no permissions. It reads nothing that leaves the watch. • When a value isn't available — no heart rate, no sensor — the slot shows dashes. Never a zero: a zero step count and an "I don't know" look the same and mean very different things. • On screens under 300 px the secondary bezel lettering isn't drawn. At that size it's illegible and adds nothing but noise. Inspired by the Casio digital watches of the eighties, in particular the F-91W and the W-59. --- Casio, F-91W and W-59 are trademarks of Casio Computer Co., Ltd.
