介绍
# Garmin_DataField_EPperHour Datafield for Garmin Watch to show EP per Hour ## What is EP Effort Point (EP) is introduced by International Trail running Association (ITRA) to measure the effort used during the trail running activities. EP is calculated by the sum of total distance reached (kilometer) and the total Elevation gain (meter). For example, 1km is 1EP and also 100m elevation gain is also 1EP. Example: For a race of 100 Km and 5000m Elevation Gain, the EP is 150 ## What is EpH EP per Hour (EpH) is the real time display of the current effort used vs time on your overall trail running activities. This method is proposed by Hong Kong’s Trail Running Elite Wong Ho Chung in his trail running group - The Peak hunter. This is super useful while you chasing your plan during a race. Example: HK100 course is 153.6EP and Finish time is 16 hours, EP per Hour will be 9.6EpH For detail, please refer to The Peak Hunter web site : https://www.thepeakhunter.com/ ==== Q & A ===== Q: Does the EPH app on Garmin show the current (real-time) EPH, or the average EPH calculated from the start of the activity? A: The EPH (Effort Points per Hour) app displays the average EPH from the start of the activity up to the current time, not the instantaneous or real-time EPH. Q: What does “average EPH” mean in this context? A: Average EPH is calculated using the formula: EPH = Total EP / Total Time Elapsed (in hours) It gives you the overall average effort rate for your entire activity so far, rather than reflecting moment-to-moment fluctuations. Q: Why does the app use average EPH instead of real-time EPH? A: In trail running, real-time effort can vary significantly due to terrain changes: Downhills may require little effort but still produce high heart rates. Uphills involve high physical effort but lower speed. Using average EPH provides a more stable and meaningful indicator of your performance and pacing across the entire route. It's particularly helpful when comparing your progress against a race strategy or goal finish time. Q: Can you give an example? A: Let’s say you've been running for 2 hours and you've accumulated 30 EP (e.g., 20 km + 1000 meters elevation gain): EPH = 30 / 2 = 15 This means you're averaging 15 Effort Points per hour. Q: What if I want to see real-time effort? A: EPH is designed to show average effort. For real-time effort tracking, you may want to rely on heart rate zones, running power, or other dynamic metrics provided by your watch or training platform.
