OPEN-WATER MAP ON YOUR WRIST. Many Garmin watches show no map while you swim in the sea. Swim Friends does: your track, your beach along the bottom of the screen, and the way back to where you went in, with the distance. Mark spots you like or want to avoid, and the watch buzzes when you swim near them again. A swim data field with big, easy-to-read numbers and a little neon sea friend who grows with every kilometre you swim. While you swim, one glance shows the time of day, a huge distance, your heart rate and swim time. Stop for a breath and the rest screen opens by itself – no buttons, no swiping with wet hands. Rest screen: pick any four values from 16, separately for open water and for the pool: - Pace per 100 (from your last stretch), average pace, speed - Water temperature (from the watch sensor; it settles after about 10 minutes in the water) - Distance this swim, total distance and total time across all your swims - Heart rate, average heart rate, swim time, time of day, calories, Body Battery - Pool: rest timer, lengths and last-length pace Open water or pool is picked automatically from your activity, or set it yourself. An optional Body Battery ring circles the screen. Back-to-start map (open water). Many Garmin watches offer no navigation during an open-water swim. Here, when you stop for a breath, the rest screen switches every few seconds to a map with your beach along the bottom: your trail, a dot where you are, a gold flag where you went in, and a gold dotted line home with the distance. Every place you start from is remembered, so if the current carries you along the beach, the map points you to the nearest way out you know. Spots: press Lap to mark something you saw – a turtle, a reef. Press Lap twice to mark a warning instead – jellyfish, a current, a shallow rock. Spots are kept across swims, and the next time you swim near one the watch buzzes (a long double buzz for warnings). Your location stays on the watch. Choose your swim friend: a dolphin, a manta ray or an octopus. It grows at 10, 30 and 100 km, leaps with sparkles every 500 m, and naps while you rest – always smaller than the numbers. How to add it: in your swim activity, open the data screens, choose a full-screen (1 field) layout and pick Swim Friends. Settings are in the Connect IQ app. In 7 languages. Free. New sea map: the beach always at the bottom, the sea fills the dial, a fine smooth track and the way back in gold dots, distance written on the shore. Your marks now go into the activity, so Garmin Connect shows them on a chart and counts them in the summary. Cleaner rest screen: the same clear gap between every label and its number.
