TESLA ROADSTER (AND STARMAN'S) ORBITS NOW INCLUDED! This widget displays the solar system as it is right now, and allows to zoom in/out and explore future/past. New settings page (press Menu key). ------ Accepting donations at https://www.paypal.me/julienvm if you want to support my work. Thank you! ------ In the 3rd millenium, who needs a watch to give just time? With Solar System Live widget, you can prepare for the upcoming space age, by exploring and getting a better understanding of the solar system. Or you can simply increase your situational awareness if you are a stargazer. Solar System is a widget that displays the real-time current position of planets (from Mercury to Pluto) and their orbits in the heliocentric referential, as seen from the top. Earth's moon is also displayed, as well as asteroid belts and optionally distance between planets. User can zoom in and out, and change date. Uses for this widget are: - See which planets are present in the night sky today and at future or past dates (how: any planet on the side of the Sun, i.e. visible during daytime, will not be visible during night) - Know why such planets are not observable in the night sky (because of their current location on the sun's side) and when they will become observable (by time-shifting to the future). - Quickly evaluate the best periods for launch to Mars or other planets, in direct (conjunction-class) and opposition-class missions. - The Earth rotation axis - really the rotation North Pole - is represented as a light pixel. This helps explain seasons. When the north pole is opposite from the Sun (that's also when the Earth is near 12 o' clock), this is December 21, which is winter in the northern hemisphere. - A solar system map with Moon, Earth and Sun helps explain Moon phases. - Be part of the space age by having a solar system map on you wrist!! For display reasons, planet sizes are not to scale! I may adjust that in the future to make a more accurate representation. = === INSTRUCTIONS =============================================== After you install and start the widget, the solar system is presented from the top (as seen in the picture). The inner system is presented at first, as it stands based on your watch current date and time. To enter the edit mode (zoom and date change), press "Select" key. By pressing "Select" key again, you will toggle between "Scale" and "Date" modes. In "Scale" mode, keys "Up" and "Down" let you zoom in and out. In "Date" mode, keys "Up" and "Down" let you increment or decrement the date. The step period depends on zoom value. The further out, the larger period (4-year steps when focusing on Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). The closer in, the shorter period (1-day steps when focusing on Mercury). To exit the edit mode, press "Esc" or "Back" key. If you changed the date, the selected date will be displayed on the home screen. If not, no date will be displayed (meaning the selected date is today and now). You can at any time select "Menu" (long-press "Up" key) to access Settings. Planet positions is accurate within much less than a pixel for about 100 years (after that, the position is less certain but still pretty close). Orbits are drawn as circles instead of ellipses to optimize rendering time. The error for orbit representation is maximum of 1 pixel. = Image credit BSIP/UIG/Getty Images Keywords: Space, Planet, Planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto

Change log: 1.4.2 All possible devices activated (I haven't tested them all so there might be some bugs). 1.4.1 Label issue corrected 1.4.0 You can now focus on a planet (not just the Sun). May cause bug on constrained memory devices. 1.3.1 Now using NASA JPL Horizons Solution #5 for Tesla orbit. Added setting: Menu display (on/off) to free up screen real estate. 1.3.0 Added Tesla Roadster (orbit data from NASA JPL Horizons Solution #3). Added setting page (press menu): Reset time to now, Select Label type, Display eccentric orbits as circle (quick) or ellipse (more precise), Select distance unit (AU, Light-Minutes, km or miles), Display Tesla (activate or deactivate). 1.2.2 Added support for new watches, including D2 Charlie and Fenix 5. Added page reference (4 circles on the top right side). 1.1.5: Added option to display distance (in AU = astronomical units = distance Earth-Sun) between the selected planet and all other objects. 1.1.3: Zoom level and label preference saved 1.1.2: Added Main Asteroid Belt and Kuiper Belt. Added Saturn's rings. Updated scaling for time to be more in line with zoom scale. Added option to change labels (Full name, First letter, No label). 1.1.1: Added Earth's moon. 1.1.0: Date increment/decrement step is now variable, going from 1-day steps (zoomed in on Mercury) to 4-year steps (zoomed out to Pluto). Added Earth's rotation axis as a lighter pixel on the Earth globe.
