Apparent Winds seamlessly integrates wind, boat speed, and course making it easy for Sailors, Windsurfers, Kayakers, and SUP to plot the best course to the destination given current wind conditions. INSTALLING: 1. Hold MENU 2. Select Activities & Apps 3. Select the activity to customize 4. Select the activity settings 5. Select Data Screens 6. Select Add New 7. Select Custom Data 8. Choose the full screen layout (1st one) 9. Choose ConnectIQ Fields 10. Choose Windy Indicator (WI) 11. Select the location of the field READING WIND CONDITIONS: Windy shows both the direction of wind origination (blue pointer) and apparent wind (pink pointer) based on boat speed and direction. Apparent wind takes into account current wind conditions and wind generated from the boat's movement to calculate the apparent wind direction. NAVIGATING: When navigating a course, a yellow arrow will point in the direction of the destination. The Course Deviation Indicator will show the Lateral Deviation (L/DEV) from the course line. The scale of the lateral deviation (L/DEV) is based on the data field's settings. The default deviation is .25 miles in each direction (.5 mi total). ROUTING: Garmin has several types of routing for each activity. These will impact Windy Indicator's display and ability to show lateral deviation. Direct Routing. This routing will plot a course directly from your current location to the destination. There are two types of direct routing: bearing and course. Bearing plots a continuous course line from your current location to the destination. Course plots from your original starting point to the destination. Windy Indicator will ONLY work when Bearing is selected as the route type. Non-Direct (other). This routing will use the built-in maps or a pre-loaded course. Garmin will use intermediate points based on whether the Map or Course option is selected. When using non-direct routing, Windy will show the deviation from the current course line to the next waypoint. SELECTING OPTIONS: During an activity, perform the following steps to access Windy options: 1. Hold MENU 2. Select ConnectIQ Fields 3. Select Windy Indicator 4. Select L/DEV Scale 5.
