Description
Greyline is a pocket assistant for portable amateur radio. It turns your GPS position into a 6- or 8-character Maidenhead locator, keeps UTC in view, and counts your contacts towards a valid POTA, SOTA or WWFF activation. Log each QSO with a callsign on a phone-style keypad, or with a single tap, and it tells you your rate in QSOs per hour and roughly when you will reach ten — and warns you when that falls after 00z, when the count starts over. Enter the other station's locator and you get the great-circle distance, the bearing and an arrow that points the way. A 24-hour ring shows day, greyline and night for you and for them, with sunrise and sunset in UTC, and a second ring suggests a band for every hour from how much of the path lies in daylight. That suggestion is a rough estimate without solar flux data, so treat it as a starting point. An antenna page gives dipole, EFHW and counterpoise lengths for each band. WHAT IT DOES - Maidenhead locator (6 or 8 characters) from GPS, big UTC clock and local time - Activation counter for POTA (10), SOTA (4), WWFF (44) and 2-fers, per UTC day, with dupe check on band and mode - QSO rate and a forecast of when the activation becomes valid, with a warning if that is after 00z - SOTA summit points, including the winter bonus - Distance, bearing and a compass arrow to any locator - Day, greyline and night rings for you and the other station, with sunrise and sunset - A suggested band for each hour of the day, and dipole, EFHW and counterpoise lengths - QSO log on the watch with undo and delete, km or miles, metres or feet, five languages, and a glance WHAT IT NEEDS - GPS for your own locator; the last fix is remembered - No phone, no account, no internet — everything is worked out on the watch
